Does anyone know where the month of January went?!

Thank you to all who joined us for the SOLD OUT first member dinner of the year, featuring a boat builder panel moderated by Correct Craft CEO Bill Yeargin. We thank Bill and all the panelists that made it a special evening. Be sure to check out our social media pages for pictures from the event. I have some exciting updates to share…finally and with much anticipation...

Hopefully, you already know that we have officially rebranded MIAPBC! In addition to the new logo, which better reflects our ownership of the Palm Beach International Boat Show, we have other exciting things in store for the year. We are slowly getting things changed over but as you can imagine it’s a big undertaking, so if you see the “old” logo somewhere please let us know because it’s possible we may have missed it. In addition, should you need a copy of our new logo please reach out.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in the Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade and toy drive! We are excited to finally announce the final toy count of toys collected for Toys for Tots and Little Smiles: 14,229 toys!!! Our goal was to collect more than 13,000 toys so we could not be happier with this news. Be sure to check out our full performance report below. All sponsors will be receiving a separate email as well.

Believe it or not, the Palm Beach International Boat Show is right around the corner! March 23-26. We have sponsorship opportunities for the Kickoff Celebration on March 25 aboard the Mansion Yacht, which will be docked inside the show like last year. All members will be invited to attend with a guest, so be sure to check your emails for that information.

The MIAPBC Membership Committee meets a few times a year to help plan events and discuss member recruitment and retention. If you are a member and interested in joining this committee, reach out to the MIAPBC office.

The cutoff to renew your business membership and be included in the Boater’s Directory is February 15! All members receive a complimentary listing, with the option to purchase an ad. All members also receive free and discounted tickets to the upcoming PBIBS. There is a link included below to renew, but if you need assistance let us know by calling or emailing.

That's all for now! I hope to see you all in March!

Boaters are encouraged to be on the lookout during right whale calving season

If you plan to boat or fish in the Atlantic Ocean this winter, be on the lookout for North Atlantic right whales that are calving in state and federal waters off Florida, Georgia and South Carolina from November through April. These endangered species are extremely hard to spot and collisions with vessels put passengers and crew at risk and could cause injury or death to right whales. With fewer than 350, right whales are one of the world's most endangered large whale species.

Follow these boating safety tips during right whale season:

  • Go slow, which can give you time to react.
  • Post a lookout! Watch for black objects, whitewater and splashes.
  • Avoid boating in the dark, when visibility is poor or in rough seas.
  • Use the Whale Alert app to see if whales have been sighted in your area.
  • Check for signage at your local boat ramp or marina as a reminder of what to look for and how to identify and report right whale sightings.
  • If a whale is spotted, slow down, operate at a slow speed or put your engine in neutral if possible. Assess the scene and slowly leave the area while keeping watch. Never pursue or follow a whale and keep at least 500 yards from the right whales (it’s the law).
  • Report whale sightings and collisions immediately to the U.S. Coast Guard on marine VHF Ch. 16 or call 1-877-WHALE-HELP (942-5343).

Learn more about what you can do to prevent right whale collisions at MyFWC.com/Research by clicking “Wildlife.”

These North Atlantic Right Whales (mother & calf) were spotted by Juno Beach & Singer Island early January & photographed by Paul Dabill.

*To comply with federal regulations the drone was kept a minimum

of 500 yards from the whales and high powered zoom lens was used.
